In 1996, I accepted a job in Pittsburgh. Although my wife and I grew up about 200 miles north, we didn’t know much about the area. Two co-workers asked about the setting my wife and I wanted: “We want a village with Victorian homes and a grade school close enough for our children to walk to and from.” The co-workers simultaneously said “Sewickley.”

We have now moved back home to Western New York. I will always remember my friends who live and work in the village. There are my coffee buddies including Ambridge Bob, Terry the golfer, the Professor, Jerry V. and George. They helped me get through covid as we had our morning coffee sitting 6 feet apart in the square. There are my friends who work at Safran’s, especially Mark and Kim. There is everyone at Herbst Service Station who maintained my vehicles including Alan (may he RIP), Jim, Marg and Mike. Then there is Peter, absolutely the best next-door neighbor we’ve ever had for many reasons.

My coworkers were absolutely right about Sewickley. It has been a great place to live with beautiful homes and a vibrant village. However, it will always be my friends who live and work there that I will remember the most. I will be back to visit my friends.
