I had an appointment with Dr. Labriola at Sewickley Eye Group on June 29. My original time was for 4 p.m., but due to a cancellation, I was asked to arrive at 11:10 a.m.

We were running a little late for the appointment. My wife parked nearby at the office. She tried to prepay for the parking via the machine that was located close by. She used her credit card, inserted license plate numbers but did not receive a receipt.

Our time with the doctor took longer than we anticipated. Upon returning to our car, we noticed the parking violation on the windshield. We then went to the municipal building to explain what happened. One woman there said she would look into the matter. Another woman there went back to the machine and claimed that it worked fine. There was a group of people there also and followed her instructions, such as “put in your card until it clicks.” Really?

Perhaps an update on pay machines would prevent such a nasty experience that we had. I am retired. While $10 versus $3 for parking may not seem like a lot to some, it does to me.
