In regard to the recent article concerning the draining of Big Sewickley Creek’s water for use by Penn Energy Company to frack, I must say I am shocked and appalled that any state or local official would believe that taking three million gallons of water daily from such a small stream would have no impact on wildlife or the health of Big Sewickley Creek.

Not only is this scheme ill-advised, but it also seems absurd considering that the Ohio River lies less than three miles from the upper reaches of our beautiful creek. Why not use that water?

Surely the quality of life for all who live near this stream would be adversely affected. We cannot and should not tolerate the destruction of our natural places for the profit of a private corporation.

Our community needs to stand up to this blatant abuse. Politicians should be contacted and informed of this outrage.
