I have requested the Quaker Valley school board’s stance on critical race theory and the 1619 Project. As of this submission, they have refused to give a direct answer.
Critical race theory is a racist teaching with emphasis on separating people as oppressors or oppressed based on group identity. It teaches kids to see color of skin above all else.
The 1619 Project teaches students the false idea that America was founded in 1619 with the arrival of African slaves rather than 1776, and that the Revolutionary War was fought in order to preserve slavery.
It is extremely important for students to relate to people based on character and not skin color as CRT advocates. It is also important for our children to learn history as it happened, not a revised version that a particular group prefers to portray.
Why will nobody from the board give me their position on these subjects? Why will they not commit to enacting policy that bans such teachings and use of textbooks that do?
If you, too, would like an answer or think they should ban it at Quaker Valley, please contact the board and let them know.
