Man rescued from hillside near Emsworth Lock and Dam

A fisherman was rescued after being trapped on the riverbank near the Emsworth Lock and Dam late Saturday.

Emsworth Volunteer Fire Company posted to Facebook that crews responded at 9:45 p.m. and found an elderly man about 20 feet over the hillside on rocky ground.

The incident happened near Pittsburgh Industrial Plating on Herron Avenue.

Crews used a rope system and stokes basket to bring the man to safety. The rescue took about 25 minutes, during which time Norfolk Southern trains were halted.

Emsworth was assisted by Avalon and Bellevue fire services, Northwest EMS, Ohio Township police on scene. North Fayette Township fire department covered for mutual aid calls.

The man was taken to the hospital. His condition was unclear.

No one answered the phone Sunday at the Emsworth fire station.
