Many Quaker Valley area races uncontested in the November election

Editor’s note: The Sewickley Herald is publishing election previews with candidate interviews for contested municipal and school board races only. Write-in campaigns will not be featured.

Quaker Valley area voters will see a lot of familiar names, a handful of new ones and even a couple of new political parties on the November ballot.

Many of the races for council, township commissioner, school board and mayor are uncontested.

Here are those candidates and communities, according to an unofficial list from the Allegheny County Elections Division.

Some municipal candidates have won their party’s nomination via the May Primary election and earned enough write-in votes to be on both ballots, according to elections officials.

Quaker Valley School Board

Board Vice President Daniela Sauro Helkowski and newcomer Ellen Stevenson will be on both the Democrat and Republican tickets for two four-year seats in Region 1.

Board member Stratton Nash will be on both the Democrat and Republican ticket for one four-year seat in Region 2.

Board member Kathryn Doebler will be on both the Democrat and Republican ticket for one four-year seat in Region 3.

Aleppo

Commissioners President George Jones and Commissioner Daniel Darragh, both Republicans, seek another four-year term in a race for three seats. There are no Democrats or other persons listed.

Commissioner Amy Richert did not seek reelection.

Bell Acres

Council President David Renfrew, Vice President Brock Meanor and council members Charles Kulbacki and Michelle Veeck, all Republicans, will be on the ballot in a race for four, four-year seats.

Republican Councilman Matthew Horton is running unopposed for a two-year seat. No Democrats for council were listed.

Democrat Mayor Alvania Kenneth is running for reelection to a four-year term. There were no Republican mayoral candidates listed.

Edgeworth

Council President Joseph Hoepp, Vice President Ivan Hofman and Councilman Daniel Wilson, all Republicans, are running for three four-year seats. No Democrats or a fourth person were listed.

Republican Mayor Gary Smith runs unopposed for another four-year term.

Glen Osborne

Council President John Orndorff and Councilman Gregory Curran, both Democrats, are on the ballot for four open four-year seats. No Republicans or other candidates were listed.

Councilwoman Ann Fruehauf seeks a four-year term and is on the ballot as a member of the Get Stuff Done party, according to Allegheny County records.

Newcomer Matthew Doebler is registered as a member of the Osborne is Beautiful party and running unopposed for a four-year term as mayor, according to Allegheny County records.

Leet

Newcomers Jessica Cindrich and Paul Magee will be on the Democratic and Republican tickets for two four-year seats.

Cindrich won a Democratic nod and Magee a Republican nod in the May primary. They also got enough write-in votes via their respective opposing party to claim spots on both ballots.

No incumbents ran for reelection.

Leetsdale

Council President Maria Napolitano, Vice President Osman Awad and Councilman James DeGori will all be on the Democratic and Republican ticket and newcomer Robert Benedict will be on the Democratic ticket for four four-year seats. No other candidates were listed.

Awad, DeGori and Benedict won Democratic nods in the primary. Awad and DeGori also earned enough write-in votes to be on the Republican ticket.

Napolitano was the only Republican running in the primary. She also earned enough write-ins to be on the Democratic ticket.

Mayor Sandra Ford will be on the Democratic and Republican ticket for another four-year term. She won the Democratic primary and dominated the Republican write-in votes.

Sewickley

Council members Todd Hamer and Linda Solecki, both Democrats, are running for two four-year seats in Ward 1.

No Republicans were listed.

Kristopher Edward Lorang, borough zoning hearing board chairman, will be on both the Republican and Democratic tickets for a four-year seat in Ward 2. Both party nods for this Ward were decided via write-in votes.

Councilwomen Anne Willoughby and Donna Korczyk, both Democrats, are running for two four-year seats in Ward 3.

No Republicans were listed.

Mayor George Shannon runs unopposed for another four-year term. He won a Democratic nod in May and earned enough write-in Republican votes to be on both ballots.

Sewickley Heights

Council Vice President Craig Kinney and council members Mary Barbour, Tom Pangburn and Carey Sirianni, all Republicans, are running for four four-year seats. No Democrats were listed.

Republican Mayor George Magovern runs unopposed for another four-year term.
