Sewickley residents will enjoy easy access to a smash burger this fall as Moonlit Burgers announced it will be opening its third location.
The property located on Locust Place is expected to begin serving diners in September.
Mike McCoy, who owns Moonlit along with his partner Derek Stevens, said they were looking for an area similar to their location in Dormont.
“It has a very small town feel,” McCoy said.
In a smash burger, the beef is initially shaped like a meatball and then gets “smashed” down and grilled. The Dormont location, which popularized the smash burger, has been open since November 2021.
Less than a year later, McCoy and Stevens opened a second location, next to Duquesne University’s campus in Uptown.
The Sewickley location will have the same neon-retro feel and Moonlit’s signature “lunch tray wall,” but unlike the other two locations, will not have a bar for customers to sit at.
The restaurant will still serve beer and cocktails, but the smaller size of the space meant only traditional tables, which will seat between 40-50 people, could fit, McCoy said.
It will serve a full menu, which includes fries, veggie burgers, fried chicken, milkshakes and soft serve ice cream from Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Moonlit Burgers’ Sewickley location is expected to employee 20-25 people and be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The restaurant is still hiring.

“They celebrate the neighborhood,” he said.
