Quaker Valley School District officials have determined that projected costs for a new high school are $85 million to $95 million.
The district has purchased more than 150 acres of off Camp Meeting Road for the high school project. They determined the cost to renovate the current school at 625 Beaver Street would be about $72 million, but said it would be a “sub-par result.”
“The footprint of the building cannot change, the foundation of the building is inadequate for building upwards, and the floodplain we’re located in makes it impossible to expand outwards,” district officials said in a press release.
The school board hired Thomas and Williamson to evaluate plans for a new high school in 2019. Jon Thomas, president and co-founder of the firm, presented his findings, including initial cost estimates for a new school at a virtual board meeting May 12.
The evaluation by Thomas and Williamson included a review of geotechnical information, program options and next steps.
According to the release, work completed on the project so far includes a demographic report, geotechnical studies, land surveys, and educational program pre-design work with BrainSpaces.
At their April 27 meeting, the school board said they would not raise taxes for the 2020-21 school year.

On June 9, all school board committees are scheduled to meet. A legislative meeting is scheduled for June 16.
