For many years, kindergarteners at Osborne Elementary School performed the “Days of the Dinosaurs” play. It was revamped with new songs in 2008, and has been a long-standing tradition – with the exception of the past couple of years due to the pandemic.

For several weeks, students learn about dinosaurs, including carnivore, herbivore and omnivore types of dinosaurs; the ways they traveled, such as walking, flying, and swimming; the large variety and names of dinosaurs; paleontology; what paleontologists do to continue learning about dinosaurs; and more, according to Liz Boone, one of the school’s kindergarten teachers.

Multiple classes of kindergarten students then work together to learn songs and poems, in addition to motions and dance moves. Each student memorizes one or two lines as well.

The play was performed for students’ families the evening of June 2, and was a return to pre-covid normalcy for students, teachers and families alike.

“After so much time being forced to live life differently due to covid, and not having the families in the building during the school day, it is worth it to have these performances outside of the school day this year,” Boone said.

The school’s second graders also performed a play on May 19 – their first play as elementary school students.
