On Sept. 16, Sewickley Academy welcomed back students in grades 2, 8 and 12 to campus, joining the students who chose to start school in person in grades pre-K, kindergarten, 1, 6 and 9. Currently, the rest of the students are participating in online learning.
“We’ve decided to slow our return to campus,” said Head of School Kolia O’Connor. “This conservative approach will allow us to continue moving forward, but do so in a way that ensures the safety of those who are already on campus and those who will join them.”
O’Connor also said that the Sewickley Academy teachers and students have adapted to remote learning.
“We had much success with virtual school last spring, and our faculty engaged in significant professional development over the summer to strengthen their skills in the online environment even more,” he said. “Our remote learning hybrid model reflects these investments. For those grades currently on-campus, remote learners log on via Zoom in the morning and experience the school day the same way as their peers on campus. For the grades learning remotely, we are also utilizing Zoom and other online conferencing tools for teaching and learning while operating on our normal daily schedule.”
O’Connor said the goal is to have all students back on campus by Sept. 29.
