Quaker Valley Area primary results
Candidates in the uncontested municipal and school board races in the Quaker Valley area cruised through the May 20 primaries and earned party nods, according to complete but unofficial returns from the Allegheny County Elections Division.
Aleppo
Republican incumbents Daniel Darragh and commissioners’ President George Jones received 91 votes and 86 votes, respectively, for party nods for three seats in November.
The term is four years. There were only two write-in votes and no Democratic candidates.
Bell Acres
Democrat Mayor Kenneth Alvania received 115 votes for his party’s nomination for another four-year term.
There were 75 write-in votes cast and no Republican candidates. However, 13 Republican write-in votes were cast.
Bell Acres Council had four Republicans running for four, four-year seats and one Republican running for nomination for a two-year seat.
Council Vice President Brock Meanor was the top vote getter with 65, followed by Michelle Veeck with 63, Council President David Renfrew with 62 and Charles Kulbacki with 61. Five write-in votes were cast.
There were no Democratic candidates. However, there were 21 Democratic write-in votes cast for the four-year seats.
Republican Matthew Horton received 68 votes for the party nomination for the two-year council seat. There were nine Democratic write-in votes cast and zero Republican write-in votes cast for the two-year seat.
Edgeworth
Republican Mayor Gary Smith received 111 votes to earn his party’s nomination for another four-year term.
No one was on the Democratic ticket. However, 25 Democratic write-in votes were cast. There were five Republican write-in votes cast for mayor.
Four Republican candidates, all incumbents, sought party nods for four four-year council seats.
Daniel Wilson was the top vote getter with 92 votes, followed by President Joseph Hoepp and Vice President Ivan Hofmann tied with 91 votes, and Katherine Larsen received 88 votes.
No one was on the Democratic ticket. However, there were 28 Democratic write-in votes cast and 15 Republican write-in votes cast for council.
Glen Osborne
Two Democrat incumbents ran for four council ballot spots in the November election.
Council President John Orndorff was the top vote getter with 54 votes, followed by Greg Curran with 49 votes.
No one was on the Republican ticket. There were four Republican write-in and two Democratic write-in votes cast for council. The term is four years.
No mayoral candidates were on the primary ballot. However, there were 10 Democratic write-in votes and three Republican write-in votes cast for mayor.
Leetsdale
Democratic Mayor Sandra Ford was the lone candidate seeking her party’s nomination for another four-year term. She received 110 votes. There were 13 Democratic write-in votes cast for mayor.
There were no Republicans on the ballot. However, 42 Republican write-in votes were cast.
Vice President Osman Awad, James DeGori and Robert Benedict were the three Democrats running for four council ballot spots in the November election. They received 102, 91 and 82 votes, respectively. There were 51 Democratic write-in votes cast for council.
Council President Maria Napolitano was the lone Republican seeking one of four ballot spots in the November election.
She received 58 votes. There were 46 Republican write-in votes cast for council. Council terms are for four years.
Leet
Paul Magee was the lone Republican candidate seeking a party nod for one of two four-year commissioner seats.
He received 98 votes. There were 32 Republican write-in votes cast.
Jessica Cindrich was the lone Democratic candidate seeking a party nod for one of two four-year commissioner seats. She received 149 votes. There were 44 Democratic write-in votes cast.
Sewickley
Democrat incumbents Todd Hamer and Linda Solecki were the lone candidates seeking party nods for two council 1st Ward ballot spots in the November election. Hamer was the top vote getter with 111 votes, followed by Solecki with 100 votes. There were three Democratic write-in votes cast for 1st Ward.
No one was on the Republican ticket in the 1st Ward. However, there were 12 Republican write-in votes cast for the 1st Ward.
There were no Democrat or Republican candidates for a 2nd Ward council seat. However, there were 22 Democratic write-in and 12 Republican write-in votes cast.
Democrat incumbents Donna Korczyk and Anne Willoughby ran for party nods for two 3rd Ward council ballot spots in the November election.
Willoughby received 124 votes, followed by Korczyk with 110 votes. There were no other Democratic candidates and no Democratic write-in votes were cast for 3rd Ward.
No one was on the Republican ticket in the 3rd Ward. There were seven Republican write-in votes cast in the 3rd Ward.
Council terms are for four years.
Democrat Mayor George Shannon was the lone candidate seeking his party’s nomination for another four-year term.
He received 371 votes. Four Democratic write-in votes were cast for mayor.
No one was on the Republican ticket. However, 29 Republican write-in votes were cast for mayor.
Sewickley Heights
Republican Mayor George Magovern Jr. was the only candidate seeking his party’s nomination for another four-year term.
He received 66 votes. Two Republican write-in votes for mayor were cast.
No one was on the Democratic ticket. However, 16 Democratic write-in votes were cast for mayor.
Four Republicans ran for party nods for four council ballot spots in the November election.
Carey Sirianni was the top vote getter with 62 votes, followed by Mary Barbour with 59, Tom Pangburn and Craig Kinney each received 58 votes. No Republican write-in votes for council were cast.
No one was on the Democratic ticket. However, 16 Democratic write-in votes for council were cast. The term is for four years.
Sewickley Hills
Republican Cynthia Phillips was the lone candidate seeking party nods for three, four-year council seats. She received 25 votes. There were 77 Democratic write-in votes cast for the council seats.
No one was on the Democratic ticket, though 112 Democratic write-in votes for council were cast.
No one was on the Democratic or Republican tickets for mayor. However, 48 Democratic write-in votes were cast, as were 34 Republican write-in votes.
Quaker Valley School District
Board Vice President Daniela Sauro Helkowski and Ellen Stevenson both cross-filed for Democrat and Republican nods for two Region 1 school board ballot spots.
Helkowski was the top vote getter on both ballots with 313 on the Democratic ticket and 174 on the Republican ticket.
Stevenson received 287 on the Democratic ticket and 135 on the Republican ticket. There were six Democratic write-in and three Republican write-in votes cast for Region 1.
School board member Stratton Nash was the lone Region 2 candidate and cross-filed. He received 377 votes on the Democratic ticket and 99 votes on the Republican ticket. There were five Democratic write-in and five Republican write-in votes cast for Region 2.
School board member Katheryn Doebler was the lone Region 3 candidate and cross-filed. She received 489 votes on the Democratic ticket and 276 votes on the Republican ticket. There were five Democratic write-in and 31 Republican write-in votes cast.
The terms are for four years.
