Quaker Valley High School junior varsity and varsity golf teams traded their the tees and clubs for some sponges and suds as part of a car wash fundraiser earlier this month.

Students and boosters made about a dozen or so cars cleaner at the Herbst Texaco Station at the corner of Thorn and Walnut streets on Sept. 17.

Golfers who participated included AnnaFaith Murray, Eva Bulger, Adam Renner, Owen Glass, Joseph Veeck, Michael Ponzo, Ethan Dai, Nolan Wagoner, Eleazer Folabit, Ryan Dusch, Jonah Schollaert, Michael Karafa, Henry Zupanc, Makenna Kamnikar and Will Newlin.

Coach Greg Vecchi called the event a success that raised more than $1,400 toward the team’s banquet, gifts for all players and parting gifts for seniors among other things.

Several parents also got involved holding signs and directing traffic.

“The people of Sewickley are just so nice, and generous,” Vecchi said. “Thank you again to all who donated and helped our fundraiser be a success.”

Cross country teams were also to wash cars at the Subway parking lot on Village Drive in Leetsdale Sept. 17.
