Samaritan Counseling, Guidance, Consulting received a grant of $5,000 in December from the Sewickley Valley Community Fund. It will be used to help support the organization’s Samaritan Cares program, which provides fee subsidies for adults and children seeking mental health therapy at Samaritan who are uninsured or under-insured.
Making therapy affordable for approximately 337 people in financial need — about a quarter of the more than 1,300 people that Samaritan serves annually — the Samaritan Cares program expended over $80,000 in fee subsidies in 2025.
“What is so crucial about the program is that it achieves more than mitigating costs because our clients in need are struggling with ongoing trauma and stress,” said Beth Healey, Samaritan’s director of development and marketing.
“Many are suffering from marginalization due to their race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, and other factors that exacerbate their mental distress or trigger it in the first place. Getting affordable therapy means they’re gaining tools for coping, self-care, increasing self-confidence, and connecting with other supportive resources.
“We are so grateful to the Sewickley Valley Community Fund donors and trustees for their support. They exemplify compassion, care and community. Their support for Samaritan and other local nonprofits impacts all aspects of everyday life for individuals and families, including holistic health and growth, learning opportunities, financial challenges, and cultural enrichment.”
