Leetsdale residents have elected Sandra Ford as their new mayor, according to the Allegheny County Office of Election’s preliminary results.

Ford, a Democrat, ran against fellow Democrat and current mayor, Peter Poninsky in the primary election. She defeated him, 147 to 58.

Poninsky has been mayor of Leetsdale since 2002. Prior to that, he had served on borough council for 22 years.

In the general election, Ford was cross-filed and ran unopposed. She received 267 votes. There were 16 write-ins.
