Sewickley officials are moving forward with plans to repair four streets this year.
Council unanimously voted Feb. 10 to authorize borough engineer Mike Galet to prepare documents for the estimated $630,000 paving project.
Streets include the lower portion of Crescent Avenue, Thorn Street from Peebles Street to the boundary, Ferry Street from Little to Elwick streets and all of Fred Way.
Galet said the goal is to have repairs out to bid in March for an early start.
The borough budgeted about $600,000 for paving this year. Officials hope the bids come under budget.
Roads are annually evaluated by the engineer with assistance from the public works department.
Galet said it was time to make the streets on this year’s list a priority.
“We recycled the street assessments that were completed in 2024 and 2025 and selected the worst streets in each ward that had not been included in prior paving programs,” Galet said Feb. 11.
It is unclear how long construction may take.
Repairs from last year’s paving program are expected to be completed this spring.
Council President Cynthia Mullins said infrastructure maintenance is always important and council trusts the engineer’s judgment.
“Over the last three years, Gateway (Engineers) has been inspecting and rating each of our roads so council gets a very clear and detailed plan for the annual paving program,” Mullins said Feb. 17. “Depending on how the bids come in, we may have room in the budget to do a little brick repair, but that remains to be seen.”
