Sewickley Academy Senior School awards, other student accolades
This year’s Sewickley Academy Senior School Awards ceremony was held on-campus in Rea Auditorium on May 15. Awards were distributed in a variety of categories:
Derek Peng, computer science.
Claire Cable, Logan Carlson, Swetha Menon, Raneem Wahdan, Josie Whitcraft, English/writing/reading.
Milagros de Jong, Emma Di Domenico, Catherine Jardini, Ashton Ragoowansi, Isaac Ulloa Antonio, history and social sciences.
Leon Jiao, two math awards.
Alexandra Bock, Abby Bojalad, Leon Jiao, Jayne Miner, Rohan Tayur, Jack Terrell and Alex Wang, science.
Claire Cable, Logan Carlson, Alexandra Cordle, Jayne Miner, Derek Peng, Peter Shillingsburg, Maria Silvaggio, Daniel Torres and Isaac Ulloa Antonio, world language.
The Global Scholar Award was given to Catherine Jardini and Nikki Golestan.
The Minds Award for overall academic pursuit went to Jack Terrell.
Sportsmanship awards were given to Kaitlyn Hayden and Hudson Colletti.
Most Outstanding Contributor awards were received by Catherine Jardini and Nick Straka.
Best Athlete awards went to Mary Grace Gordon and Adin Zorn.
Visual arts awards were received by Nikki Golestan, Wesley Riddle and Katie Serafin.
Fine arts awards for music went to Swetha Menon, Max Peluso, Ella Tominac-Ural and Avani Venkat.
Theater arts awards were given to Grace Armutat, Claire Cable and Ibrahim Khan.
Additionally, the Community Service award was presented to Maria Silvaggio. Alex Wang received the Senior School President’s Award (for leadership in Student Council). Ashton Ragoowansi was selected to speak at the Grade 8 Commencement ceremony June 8. A Hearts Award goes to a junior who goes above and beyond to help others and was awarded to Sasha Ahmad. The Hands Award went to Max Peluso for his wide range of skills and active participation in a variety of experiences.
Sewickley Academy also annually recognizes a student in each of the Senior School grades with The McKallip Award recognizing hard work, persistence and resilience. This year’s recipients were Swetha Menon, Avni Kathju, Xavier Nicopulos and Carolyn Rempelt.
Prior to the conclusion of the awards ceremony, 12 senior students were formally inducted into the Cum Laude Society: Christopher Achkar, Grace Armutat, Leon Jiao, Suman Krishna, Spencer Krysinski, Jayne Miner, Derek Peng, Ashton Ragoowansi, Maria Silvaggio, Nicholas Straka, Rohan Tayur and Jonathan Varghese.
Other Sewickley student accolades
Eshani Chauk earned a bachelor of science in computer science with highest honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in May. Chauk and Aidan Ragoowansi made the dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester.
John Auth earned dean’s list honors at The University of Tampa for the spring 2023 semester. Auth is a senior majoring in human performance.
Avi Bunn was named to Kettering University’s spring 2023 dean’s list.
Matthew Lyons has been named to the dean’s list at John Carroll University for the spring 2023 semester.
