In just three hours on Aug. 4, Boy Scout Troop 243 of Sewickley passed out 326 backpacks filled with school supply kits, a drink and a snack to families who lined up at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church in Moon Township.

The troop partnered with North Star Chevrolet for the initiative. North Star human resources executive Terri Hohmann said that parents were grateful not only for the backpacks but for an excuse to get out of the house and do something different – even if it was just to go through a drive-thru line.

“We were able to reach children of all ages today and make them smile – which given today’s uncertain times, this donation had a big impact on the families,” Hohmann said.
