Sewickley Chamber Night Marts continue July 25
Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce officials are counting on repeat success as they plan for this summer’s next Night Mart.
The first of three major summer gatherings of food vendors and crafters took place on June 27.
Organizers estimate more than 2,000 people packed the Sewickley business district from 6-9 p.m.
“It was a strong turnout, especially considering some lingering weather concerns earlier in the day,” said Erica Parr, event organizer and chamber executive director.
“Honestly, we were thrilled. The energy was incredible, and it’s clear that the community is excited for these events. It’s always a bit of a gamble with outdoor events for all involved and the weather has been a challenge this summer, so to see that kind of crowd and engagement right out of the gate was really encouraging.”
About 30 artisans and more than 20 food vendors participated last month.
The next event is set for July 25 at the same time along Beaver Street.
Parr said the chamber took great care in selecting businesses in order to have something for everyone.
“The variety of vendors, local music and family-friendly atmosphere are always key, but this year we’ve been especially focused on curating a unique mix of returning favorites and first-time participants to keep things fresh,” she said.
“There’s something special about a summer evening in Sewickley — it’s the perfect setting.”
The vendor area has expanded onto Walnut Street this year. However, most of the action remains on Beaver Street.
Some of the artisans on the upcoming ticket include Clementina, Clever Canyon by Lynn Ellenberger, Closet Rehab, East Wheeling Clayworks and Fussy Cuts Papery.
Some of the food vendors include PGH Crepes, Piebird, El Corlibri, Slurp-N-Burst Boba Tea and Wood Stoked BBQ.
Several borough businesses will also have event specials and extended hours. The band Boom Rockets is expected to perform.
June’s Night Mart was a first for Coty Rastafar of Allegheny Township, owner and operator of All Things Empanada.
Rastafar launched her business about four years ago and has built a major following in the Greensburg area.
She said she wanted to be a part of Night Mart to meet new potential patrons.
“It went great,” Rastafar said. “We got some rain, but it turned out to be really good. It’s a nice crowd. They set up a nice little event and the area’s beautiful.”
All Things Empanada is on the list for July.
Rastafar said she plans to bring several specialties, including shredded chicken breast, ground beef, a vegan option and the seasonal sensation BBQ chicken with cheddar cheese.
There is also an apple cinnamon empanada for dessert and take-and-bake to-go offerings.
Rastafar mixes her food recipes with dough crafted through a family secret from Panama.
Parr encourages folks to bring friends and family out for a fun day of supporting local businesses.
“July’s event will bring even more vendors, a new musical lineup and additional seasonal features,” Parr said. “It’s shaping up to be our biggest Mart yet. As always, there’ll be great shopping, food, drinks and activities for all ages.”
Sewickley police and firefighters are at every mart assisting with traffic and crowd control.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution as several streets will be closed for the event.
“The Night Marts are a powerful way to activate the business district, drive foot traffic and support economic development while also strengthening community ties,” Parr said. “For the Chamber, it’s about creating a platform that benefits both our members and the broader community. These events bring people together and shine a spotlight on everything that makes Sewickley special.”
The last Night Mart of the season is Aug. 29.
