The two Sewickley docks heading into the Ohio River, located along Chestnut Street and Walnut Street, are open.

Borough manager Marla Marcinko said the Chestnut Street dock washed away in the fall of 2018.

“At the time we were looking into funding opportunities (to rebuild the dock),” Marcinko said. “We didn’t know the dock was lost downstream. The other dock was fine.”

Marion Hill Associates retrieved and installed the dock. Industry Terminal and Salvage also assisted in making adjustments to the dock, following its installation. Industry is the company the borough uses to put in, take out and store the docks.

The Chestnut Street dock is more of a ramp now as it lost its “T” shape.

It is used for motorized boats while the Walnut Street dock is used for non-motorized watercraft, according to the borough website.

Signs were placed at both encouraging boaters to be vigilant.

“There are safety concerns relative to people who don’t know what they’re doing and getting in the water and getting in trouble,” Marcinko said. “Everybody should exercise caution when being on the river.”
