Two Sewickley Girl Scouts recently earned their Gold Awards.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is one of the highest achievements in Girl Scouting. Western Pennsylvania Gold Award Girl Scouts cumulatively logged more than 5,000 hours of service while designing and implementing projects to benefit their communities and create an impact that will continue to last beyond their involvement.

They were recognized during a celebration on May 22 at the Chadwick in Wexford.

Emily Lynn Gierczynski’s passion for art inspired her to create “Helping Hands,” a weeklong art camp she facilitated for elementary school students to express their creativity. Wanting to include an element of community service, she led a project where campers decorated bags for Meals on Wheels, and she donated some of the other art projects to nursing homes in her community.

Sreeja Yallapragada saw a lack of financial education in her area and organized a series of workshops to teach various groups of students the basics of money and personal finances. To make all of her lesson plans and activities easily accessible, she created a website with a featured blog where she discussed ways to make, track and save money.
