Sewickley Borough will celebrate the holiday season with the Dec. 3 return of Light Up Night, following a 2020 hiatus.
Activities are scheduled for 5-9 p.m. in the area of Beaver and Broad streets.
“We didn’t have Light Up Night last year because of covid, so we’re excited to bring it back,” said Julie Barnes, event co-chair and a Sewickley Borough council member. “It’s a fun tradition and we’re expecting a very large crowd.”
The committee has organized a mix of new and returning activities, she noted.
Keeping with a long-running tradition, Esmark will sponsor fireworks, scheduled to go off at 7 p.m. from the Sewickley Cemetery.
Ice sculptures, visits with Santa Claus, live reindeer, children’s activities, free horse-drawn carriage rides and more will be part of the celebration.
Local businesses and restaurants will be open, and 12 food trucks will be parked around the area.
Entertainment on the Huntingdon Stage will include:
• Bella School of Dance, 5 p.m.
• Pennsylvania Academy of Dance, 5:20 p.m.
• Light Up the Village with Mayor George Shannon, 5:40 p.m.
• Quaker Valley Vocal Ensemble, 6 p.m.
• Sewickley Academy Jazz Ensemble, 6:20 p.m.
• Infinity Cheer, 6:40 p.m.
• Allegheny Brass Band, 7:15 p.m.
• Members of The Clarks, 8 p.m.
Among other special features will be:
• Free hot cocoa bar, 5-6:30 p.m. at Village Works
• Ice carving competition, 5-7 p.m. on the Tull Family Theater lawn
• Activities for all ages, 5-8 p.m. at Sewickley Public Library
• Holiday Mart grand opening, 5-9 p.m. at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.
Heritage Valley Health System, an event sponsor, will offer free parking from 5-9 p.m., accessible from the Blackburn Road entrance to its garage. Directional signs will be posted.
Parking will be free along village streets after 1 p.m.
In addition, Sustainable Sewickley, with help from the Pennsylvania Resources Council, is providing support for recycling and reuse initiatives to make Light Up Night a zero-waste event.
“The borough is thankful to be able to offer this well-loved night to the community once again,” Barnes said.
