Early literacy kits
To help promote literacy for children, Sewickley Public Library is distributing Early Literacy swag bags for all newborns up to 12 months old. Each free kit includes items to reinforce the early literacy practices: a board book, high contrast flash cards, egg shaker, chalk egg, silk play scarf, song sheets, reading lists and early literacy tips. Early Literacy swag bags can be picked up in the Children’s Department at the library. The kits are available while supplies last and are limited to one kit per family. Winter book sale
The Friends of the Sewickley Public Library is hosting their annual Winter Book Sale in February. The sale features gently-used fiction and non-fiction books, children’s books, DVDs, CDs and more.
The sale will be held at the library on 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Feb. 10, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and 1-3:30 p.m. Feb. 12. Sunday is Bag Day – shoppers can fill one of the provided bags with as many items as they can fit for only $5. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

Craft to go kits
Winter craft-to-go kits will be available starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 28. Kits are designed for children in preschool to second grade. Supplies and instructions are included. They are free and available while supplies last.
Teen jam session
Teen jam session, a program for youths in grades six through 12 to play music together, is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Jan. 28 at the library. Participants should bring their instruments, sheet music and friends for an hour of jamming. Contact Casey Heckman at 412-741-6920 for more information.
Baby/toddler storytime
Mother Goose on the Loose, a special storytime for children ages birth to 3 years old with their parents/caregivers, is scheduled for 10-10:45 a.m., 11-11:45 a.m. and 1-1:45 p.m. Jan. 31. Build your baby’s reading readiness skills through music, stories and movement in this nationally acclaimed early literacy program for babies and toddlers. Registration is required.
