Starting kindergarten can be daunting for many young children. That’s why the Sewickley Public Library has teamed up with the Quaker Valley School District to present Hello Kindergarten, a school readiness program that helps to make the transition to kindergarten easier on little ones.
The engaging storytime program, which has been offered by the library for the last five years, introduces preschoolers to Quaker Valley School District kindergarten teacher, Andrea Croft, as she explains what children can expect when they start school. From what classes will be like to the best way to pack a lunch box, Croft covers all the bases when it comes to kindergarten readiness.
A teacher for more than 17 years, Croft knows what preschoolers are going through as they transition to their school-age years and she aims to guide them through it with kindness and compassion.
Croft said her goal for the special storytime program is to get students excited for kindergarten and for the transition into a new school. She hopes to build enthusiasm for meeting new friends and seeing new faces.
This summer, the program is offered virtually with hands-on components to keep little learners engaged. Children who are entering kindergarten in the fall can register to receive an activity bag to use along with the storytime program.
The first in the series begins on June 30. Registration is required to reserve an activity bag.
