Several local students are being recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Six seniors from Sewickley Academy were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Prateek Adurty, Simran Bedi, Jacquelyn Jardini, Emily Szabo, Ashwin Tayur and Jiaji Wang were named to the list of 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Students.
Although they will not continue in the 2021 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers out of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition.
Quaker Valley High School senior Emma Parker is one of 16,000 students nationwide to be named a National Merit semifinalist.
Parker will have the opportunity to continue to compete in the National Merit Scholarship competition, where more than $30 million will be awarded.
Students are named semifinalists based on their PSAT scores, which serves as the initial screening program. The national pool of semifinalists is less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors.
