The sold-out Sewickley Sweat Crawl featured five area gyms and 70 participants. It was organized by Mackenzie Te’o, owner of Bag+Barre.

On Aug. 16, the high temperature in Sewickley was a steamy 90 degrees.

A group of 70 people decided to sweat even more by participating in the Sewickley Sweat Crawl. The event is like a bar crawl — only instead of drinking at each stop, people exercise. The day included 20-minute workout sessions in five area gyms.

The event was organized by Mackenzie Te’o, owner of Bag+Barre. The other participating gyms that collaborated were The Studio Sewickley, Salt Power Yoga, Jazzercise and Clearly Pilates.

“It was so great seeing that movement of community and support focusing on health and fitness,” Te’o said. “There are positives to exercise for physical and mental health. Fitness is a gateway to a happier life.”

The crawl sold out in two weeks.

The idea was to introduce the various workout options in Sewickley and do it in an inclusive and fun way, Te’o said.

The Lindsay Theater was the location sponsor and hosted the group for a refuel experience with six vendors, including permanent jewelry, spray tans, stretchLab, lucid juice and micro tattoos.

Te’o said when she asked for feedback, people told her it was “absolutely epic,” that everyone was welcoming and fitness newbies were comfortable.

Te’o said she plans to do it again next year.

“These types of events bring people together and they get to meet other people,” she said. “They also get to try other gyms and find the workout that works for them.”
