For the fifth year, the Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center in Sewickley will take part in the Three Rivers Film Festival with showings of six different films Nov. 13-16.

Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor, CEO of The Lindsay Theater, is looking forward to another year with TRFF.

“We really enjoy serving as a satellite location for the film festival because it increases accessibility to people north and west of the city,” Thor said.

Now in its 44th year, the Three Rivers Film Festival brings independent films from all around the world to the Pittsburgh area. In addition to bringing feature and short films to venues around the city, there are also panel discussions, parties and special competitions.

“This is the biggest and longest- running film festival in our region, so we are always honored to host,” Thor said. She added that the TRFF films have been popular each year that they’ve shown at the Lindsay, especially amongst patrons from Beaver and Butler Counties who may not otherwise have an opportunity to participate in the festival.

Films screening at the Lindsay include “Aontas,” an Irish crime thriller, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13; Peruvian drama “Mistura” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14; “The Fisherman,” a Ghanian comedy featuring a talking fish, at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15; “Transplant,” an American medical thriller, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15; “For Worse,” a romantic comedy starring Amy Landecker and Bradley Whitford, at 3 p.m. on Nov. 16; and documentary “The Tallest Dwarf” at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Films are selected to be shown at the Lindsay in partnership with Film Pittsburgh, Thor said. They take into account potential logistical challenges, demographics and the types of films that have been successful at the theater in past years.

For example, Brazilian film “The Secret Agent” was filmed in Thor’s hometown, but The Lindsay wasn’t able to screen it. Instead, Thor said, she’ll be introducing the film when it shows at the Harris Theater in Downtown Pittsburgh on Nov. 17.

Thor is excited for all six films that are coming to the Lindsay, but she’s especially anticipating “The Fisherman,” “Transplant” and “Aontas.”

“I think we have a great selection of films and it’s all about experimenting with things that you wouldn’t normally reach out to. It’s all part of a film festival, to open your eyes to something new,” she said.
