Author Elin Hilderbrand will speak at The Tull Family Theater on June 20.

The Tull Family Theater is hosting two upcoming events.

First, they’re pairing up with The Damaged Pies, one of Pittsburgh’s long-time favorite bands, for a film, concert and fight against hunger on June 19.

For their 35th anniversary, the band will bring their trademark rock and five-part harmonies to an all-ages benefit gig for their long-supported cause: the global nonprofit WhyHunger’s Artists Against Hunger & Poverty.

The event kicks off with a 2 p.m. screening of “Go and Get Your Girl,” featuring exclusive footage of The Damaged Pies in rehearsal and performance at the historic, acoustically acclaimed Carnegie Music Hall and Free Library in Carnegie. Captured by Tom Weber Films, this footage shares behind-the-scenes and before-the-audience moments of the band’s artistry, back story and the drive that has led to such longevity.

“We wanted to commemorate the band’s 35th anniversary with a sequel to our 2011 movie, ‘Same Circus, Different Town,’” band frontman Steve Bodner said. “The idea was to get a loose, intimate look at the band through songs and interactions. As far as the title, ‘Go and Get Your Girl’ had that old Elvis or beach movie feel that made it fit. We had a great time on the set with our friend, Megan Paullet, sitting in on a few songs.”

After the documentary screening, The Damaged Pies will perform live in a 40-minute concert at the Theater.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance online or at the door. Attendees also are asked to bring boxed cereal, peanut butter, jelly, crackers and granola bars to support the Coraopolis Food Pantry. Anyone who can’t attend in person is still able to donate to WhyHunger’s Artists Against Hunger & Poverty online.

On June 20, Tull is partnering with Sewickley’s independent Penguin Bookshop for a conversation and Q&A between New York Times bestselling author and “queen of beach reads,” Elin Hilderbrand, as well as Pittsburgh blogger and cookbook author Jessica Merchant. The event celebrates Hilderbrand’s newest release, “The Hotel Nantucket,” by talking about food, writing and everything in between.

Hilderbrand, a year-round Nantucket resident, has written 27 previous novels, including “The Blue Bistro” and “Golden Girl.” Millions follow the food blog How Sweet Eats and cookbooks (Seriously Delish and The Pretty Dish) written by Merchant, a Pittsburgh recipe developer.

This event begins at 7 p.m. in the Theater’s Community Room. The ticket for admission is pre-ordering a copy of “The Hotel Nantucket” from the bookshop (online or at the bookshop). Attendees are asked to wear black and/or white for this event, in keeping with Hilderbrand’s book-specific themes.

“The Hotel Nantucket” follows Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton as she recovers from a bad breakup and looks for a second chance as general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a historic gem-turned-eyesore. Can Lizbet manage the hotel’s new billionaire owner, pressure from an Instagram influencer, a staff full of secrets, a decades-long haunting and her own romantic uncertainty? The compelling summer drama offers emotional depth, multiple perspectives and a dash of Roaring Twenties history.
