2 Democrats in race for Leetsdale mayor

In Leetsdale, incumbent Democrat Mayor Peter Poninsky is up against Democrat Sandra Ford in the primary.

According to the Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial candidate list, no Republicans are on the ballot.

Here are the responses to the questions posed to the candidates by the Sewickley Herald.

Why did you decide to run for election? Following retirement, I have the time to give back to Leetsdale and try and resolve some issues that have been going on with the borough. I have lived in Leetsdale for 40-plus years and love this town. I want to do more for our residents and conduct business in a more transparent way. I will represent Leetsdale the way it deserves to be represented.

What is the biggest issue that needs to be addressed? Transparency – we need to communicate more with the people of Leetsdale. I would like to be their voice on council if they are unable to attend the meetings. In addition, I would like to see the meetings more accessible to the public via video. There is also an issue with the food bank program, and I would like to improve and expand the program.

What should voters know about you? I have a business degree and recently retired after a 45-year career in business/office management. I have worked for the H.J. Heinz Company, real estate and the magisterial district office locally and in Beaver Courts. I am currently serving on the Leetsdale zoning board and previously served on Leetsdale council.
