Allegheny Commandery #35 Knights Templar and the Laurel Valley York Rite College #97 are again partnering for Wreaths Across America at the Sewickley Cemetery.

On Dec. 19, the 11 a.m. wreath-laying ceremony will be a bit different than it has been in previous years.

Edward Foster, committee chairman, said that he is hoping to have 10 to 20 people assist in laying the wreaths on the 151 veterans’ graves in the cemetery. He said that covid-19 safety requirements will be followed.

“We will lay a wreath for all (veterans) buried in the government section, plus two additional wreaths,” Foster said. “One will be placed at the Tuskegee Airmen Monument – we do an additional wreath-laying ceremony in May for the Tuskegee Airmen – and a second wreath will be placed on the right of the monument.”

Foster said that financial support for the wreaths came from Lou Safran of Safran’s Supermarket, John Dunn of Comcast, Sewickley community members and several Masonic organizations.

Dean Robert Jancart will lead the volunteers in prayer prior to the ceremony, and taps will be played.
