Shaler Area Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2021 to be inducted Oct. 9

Shaler Area School District will recognize six athletes and one coach by inducting them into the Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame was created in 2000 to recognize those individuals who have brought prestige and pride to the Shaler Area School District athletic program and to our community either as a player, coach, administrator or supporter.

Hall of Fame inductees can include individual athletes, teams or coaches, administrators, teachers, community contributors or supporters. The Hall of Fame Committee reviews all nomination forms to determine nominees to be selected and inducted into the Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2021 inductees includes:

John Balouris – John competed in track and cross country and was a WPIAL and PIAA qualifier. He went on to continue his athletic career at St. Francis University where he was captain of the cross country and track teams.

Annie Bozzo – Annie excelled at volleyball and was a four-year captain and started for the Titans. She was a two-time All-WPIAL and two-time All-State athlete. She went on to Syracuse University where she was a setter.

Ryan Mincher – Ryan was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball and earning 10 varsity letters during his high school career. He leads the all-time batting average for Shaler Area baseball. He continued his athletic career at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was captain of the baseball team.

Eric Mozzetti – As the girls basketball coach, he led the Titans to two Section championships and a WPIAL championship. Coach Mozzetti was named WPIAL Coach of the Year for 2010-2011.

Carlos Reisen – Carlos excelled in track and field while at Shaler Area. He was a WPIAL champion in the low hurdles. He went on to continue his athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a three-year letterman and was named the Pitt Varsity Club Awardee of Distinction in 2013.

Brianna Schwartz – Brianna was a stand-out athlete on the cross country and track and field teams. She is a three-time WPIAL cross country champion, PAA state cross country champion, and 2-time PIAA state champion in the 1600m event.

David Sibenac – David was a three-sport athlete competing in football, wrestling and baseball. He was named Shaler Area Football and Baseball MVP in 2003. David went on to California University of Pennsylvania, where he was a letterman in baseball.

The Class of 2021 Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated on Oct. 8, with their introduction prior to the varsity football game. The inductees will be inducted during a ceremony at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9, at the Shaler Area High School auditorium. Admission is free. There will be no dinner banquet this year.
