Eagle Scout rank
Michael Ulery of Shaler earned Boy Scouting’s highest rank when he successfully completed the Eagle Scout Board of Review on April 6. The son of Lynne and John Ulery, Michael led a team of youth and adult volunteers in constructing and installing five end unit display shelves for the Shaler North Hills Library.
The custom-built shelves will allow the library staff to highlight certain books or book themes for the library’s visitors. Due to the size and layout of the existing shelving units, the end display units had to be designed to be a perfect fit for the ends of the shelves already in place.
A sophomore at Shaler Area High School, Ulery has held many leadership roles in Scouting. He is also active in a number of athletic, music and academic activities in school. Even as a sophomore, he already has his sights set on a four-year college degree with a focus on computer science. He credits his time and leadership opportunities in Scouting as a member of Troop 560 in the Japeechen District for his many interests in the outdoors and leadership skills.
Burchfield receives RAMP designation
Burchfield Primary has been named a Recognized ASCA Model Program by the American School Counselor Association.
The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-informed school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment.
Burchfield Primary is one of 69 schools in 19 states to receive the RAMP designation this year. Additionally, Burchfield Primary received the RAMP School of Distinction award, honoring schools with exceptionally high-caliber school counseling programs based on rankings determined by a panel of RAMP reviewers. The RAMP designation is good for five years.
“We are so proud of Burchfield Primary’s dedication to providing a quality school counseling program to our students,” said Superintendent Sean Aiken. “This designation highlights the hard work of the entire school community to address the academic, career and social/emotional development of our students.”
Burchfield Primary will be honored at a recognition ceremony at ASCA’s annual conference in July 2022.
