A variety of programming is scheduled at the library, including:

Participants can read their favorite books, discover new favorites and enter to win prizes. Registration is available on the library’s website, and adults can also register in person.

The 2023 sites include Heinz History Center (with Fort Pitt Museum and Meadowcroft), Old Economy Village, Historic Fort Steuben, David Bradford House & Whiskey Rebellion Education Center, and Fort Ligonier Railroaders Memorial Museum & Horseshoe Curve. Interested individuals must reserve the kits and can contact adult services to schedule.

The Great Local Gardens Contest is accepting entries until July 7. Participants can showcase their gardens and submit entry forms available at the library or online. Winners will be announced on July 25.

Tickets for the 2023 Great Gardens Tour are on sale at the library. The tour will take place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9, featuring visits to five local gardens. Attendees can interact with experts from the Shaler Garden Club, gather ideas and find inspiration. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 or on the day of the tour for $18. The tour will be held rain or shine, and participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes. Garden addresses will be provided on the day of the tour at the library.

A Flock of Flutists is a program for individuals with at least two years of flute playing experience. It will be held on Wednesdays July 12, 19 and 26 at 6:30 p.m. Led by Ellen Spondike, the band and orchestra teacher at Shaler Area Middle School, participants can improve their flute-playing techniques and practice flute ensemble music. Registration is required.
