Kiwanis Park in Shaler offers the most facilities to the Shaler community, containing its only swimming pool, a playground, three baseball fields, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a pickleball court, two picnic shelters and a party deck by the pool.

A presentation on Shaler’s parks and recreation master plan is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the township office, 300 Wetzel Road.

Residents will be able to get an update and view recommendations for Shaler’s parks system, including Kiwanis Park.

The presentation from OHM Advisors will be held in the second-floor meeting room.

For those unable to attend in-person, it also will be livestreamed on Zoom. A link to register for the presentation will be made available oon Nov. 10 on the township’s website and Facebook page.

There will be a question-and-answer session. Those who register will be able to submit a question ahead of time by email to shaler@shaler.org or enter it into the chat.

Shaler began working with OHM Advisors in 2024 to develop a parks and recreation master plan for the township that will guide the future planning of parks, facilities and programs, said Melanie Crawford, township administrative assistant.

OHM gathered feedback from the community during an open house in March at the Shaler North Hills Library. A survey was also posted on the township’s website.

OHM met with township groups and organizations including youth sports, community and faith-based organizations. It visited and analyzed each of the parks in Shaler and has put together recommendations for many of the parks, specifically Kiwanis Park, Crawford said.

“The presentation in November will give our residents the opportunity to view these recommendations and possible costs of constructing and maintaining a potential structure in Kiwanis Park,” she said.

The next step in the master plan process will involve OHM sending out a survey to various demographics in the township.

“We recognize the importance of our parks system within our community and have worked to involve our residents as much as possible within this process,” Crawford said.
