Shaler commissioners swore in four incumbents on Jan. 2. Frank Iozzo (Ward 1), David Shutter (Ward 3), Susan Fisher (Ward 5) and Bill Cross (Ward 7) all took a familiar oath before participating in the rest of the reorganization meeting.

This will be Iozzo’s second term and Fisher’s seventh term as commissioner.

Returning for his 10th term as a commissioner, Shutter was reelected as board president for the 14th year in a row.

“One of the things that’s unique about this role in government is that when we run for office, we have to run as a Democrat or a Republican,” Shutter said. “Once we’re elected and once we’re here like this, we now turn into just Shaler residents — people that want to do the best for the community in which they live.”

Returning for his eighth term, Cross was reelected as vice president, also for the 14th year in a row.

The following chairs and committee members were named:

Public safety: Cross, chair; James Boyle and Iozzo

Public works: Commissioner Dave Mizgorski, chair; Conrad Wagner and Iozzo

Environmental and land use: Iozzo, chair; Fisher and Boyle

Parks and recreation: Susan Fisher, chair; Mizgorski and Wagner

Finance: Boyle, chair; Cross and Wagner

Personnel: Cross, chair; Shutter and Boyle

Pension and insurance: Shutter, chair; Boyel and Fisher

Police wage and policy grievance: Cross, chair; Shutter

Mizgorski will serve as a delegate for North Hills Council of Governments. Lovato, Boyle and Iozzo will work with the Congress of Neighboring Communities. Township manager Chris Lovato and Fisher will be Shaler Township Activity Liaisons.
