Son charged with killing his father in East Pittsburgh turns himself in
A son charged with killing his father after an argument in East Pittsburgh earlier this month has turned himself in to police.
Tayron Reid, 19, was taken into custody Monday, Allegheny County Police reported.
He is charged with criminal homicide for the murder of 45-year-old Ta’Ron Reid, who was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside an apartment along the 500 block of Ridge Avenue on Sept. 16.
Court documents indicate charges were filed two days after the shooting.
The younger Reid was denied bail and is lodged in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting court.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10 at Pittsburgh Municipal Court. Online court documents did not list an attorney for Reid.
On Sept. 16, first responders were dispatched to the scene in East Pittsburgh around 10:35 p.m. after someone called 911 to report gunshots.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police that the two men argued inside the apartment, which belongs to a friend of the elder Reid.
The witness did not say what the argument was about.
Reid told his father they could take it outside, the witness said, according to the complaint. The father declined.
The complaint said Reid then walked into a back room, followed by his father. The witness heard two pops. Reid then left the back room with a gun in his hand, took his father’s car keys and fled.
Police said the elder Reid was found lying on the living room floor. He had been shot in the head and torso. A paramedic pronounced him dead at 10:46 p.m.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday ruled the father’s death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said they found four spent 9mm cartridges and three projectiles inside the apartment.
The elder Reid’s car was found abandoned Sept. 17 on Webster Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood, the complaint said. The victim’s son previously lived near where the car was left.
