South Hills municipal, school board election results

A mix of newcomers and incumbents alike prevailed in a race for Pleasant Hills council that saw two incumbents lose their bids for reelection, according to unofficial results.

In the race for three open four-year seats, newcomer Andy Codelka, who appeared on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, was the top vote-getter with 31.75 percent of the votes.

Newcomer Nicole Marie Leckenby, a Democrat who was nominated by the Pleasant Hills Democratic committee to appear on the ballot after council President Dan Soltesz withdrew from the race, came in second with 23.23 percent of the votes.

Incumbent Gregory Smith, a Republican, rounded out the winners with 22.33 percent of the vote.

They beat out incumbent Justin Horvat, a Democrat, who had 22.04 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

In the race for one, two-year seat on borough council, newcomer Eileen Solinas, a Republican, bested incumbent Matthew Miceli, a Democrat, to secure the win.

Solinas received 54.01 percent of the vote, while Miceli received 45.93 percent of the vote.

All results are unofficial until certified by the Allegheny County Elections Division.

In other South Hills races:

Jefferson Hills Council

Two of three seats for Jefferson Hills council have been determined. The third open four year seat is still too close to call.

Six newcomers vyed for one of three open, four-year seats on borough council.

Democrats Karen Bucy and Nicole Ruscitto secured a spot on council, with 18.84 and 18.27 percent of the votes respectively.

Democrat Keith Reynolds and Republican Melissa Girman-Steffey were tied with 17.03 percent of the votes, or 1,171 votes, recorded, according to unofficial county records on Nov. 6.

They beat out Republicans James Kingsley, who had 15.78 percent of the vote, and Michael Lewis, who had 11.80 percent of the vote.

Baldwin Borough Council

The Democrats were victorious in a race for three open, four-year seats on Baldwin Borough Council.

Newcomers Denise Maiden and Patty Boyer joined incumbent James Behers, all Democrats, in winning a spot on borough council. They beat out newcomer Rebecca A. Conley, a Republican.

Boyer, who appeared on both party ballots on Nov. 5, received 30.67 percent of the votes. Maiden, who also appeared on both ballots, received 30.43 percent of the votes. Behers, who was on the Democratic ticket, received 23.75 percent of the votes, while Conley received 15.04 percent.

Whitehall Borough Council

Three incumbents secured another four-year term on Whitehall council.

Robert McKown, who appeared on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, was the top vote getter with 28.6 percent of the votes. Glenn Nagy, a Democrat, came in second with 23.44 percent of the votes, followed by Philip Lahr, a Democrat, who received 22.86 percent of the votes.

They beat out candidates Chris Mooney, who received 13.18 percent of the vote, and Harold Plusa, who received 11.69 percent of the vote.

Brentwood Council

In an uncontested race for three open four year seats on Brentwood council, incumbents Richard Schubert, Pat Carnevale and Harold Smith Jr. retained their seats.

Schubert received 33.27 percent of the vote; Carnevale received 32.96 percent of the vote; and Smith received 32.46 percent of the vote.

Baldwin-Whitehall School Board

Members of the “Moving Forward” slate have prevailed in Baldwin-Whitehall School Board’s race for five open, four-year seats.

Peter Giglione, with 19.03 percent of the vote; Anthony DiCesaro, with 18.98 percent of the vote; Janice Tarson, with 18.90 percent of the vote; Daniel Knezevich, with 18.76 percent of the vote; and Robert Achtzehn, with 14.65 percent of the vote, all were victorious.

All but Achtzehn appeared on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. Achtzehn was on the Democratic ballot.

The slate bested Andrea Casciato Hulsman, who appeared on the Republican ballot, and received 9.35 percent of the vote.

Brentwood Borough School Board

Five incumbents secured another term on the Brentwood Borough School Board in an uncontested race.

They were Amy Hayden, who received 21.27 percent of the vote; Robert Kircher, who received 20.20 percent of the vote; Roger Gaughan, who received 19.7 percent of the vote; David Schaap, who received 19.24 percent of the vote; and Richard Briner, who received 18.69 percent of the vote.

West Jefferson Hills School Board

In an uncontested race, four incumbents and one newcomer secured their spots on the West Jefferson Hills School Board for the next four years.

Incumbent Jill Bertini received 20.51 percent of the votes; incumbent Suzanne Downer received 20.12 percent of the vote; incumbent David Dominick received 19.94 percent of the vote; newcomer Denise Kahler received 19.58 percent of the vote; and incumbent Brian Fernandes received 19.4 percent of the vote.
