It’s Super Bowl weekend! Even though the Steelers are not in the big game this year, there are plenty of super things going on in Pittsburgh this weekend.
‘Dracula’
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s much anticipated premiere of Michael Pink’s “Dracula” opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center. There are only four performances of this dance drama, Feb. 10-12. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, they are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. with matinee performances Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The ballet is based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel about a vampire surviving on the blood of the living. Chili Cook Off
Chili lovers will want to set aside time before the Chiefs/Eagles game Sunday for Baldwin Community United Methodist Church’s annual Souper Bowl Sunday Chili Cook Off from noon until about 2:30 p.m. at 5001 Baptist Road in Whitehall, across from Caste Village. Sign up to bring chili or simply grab of a bowl or two and vote for your favorite chili. It’s free. Drinks, cornbread and veggies will be available. Vanisha Gould
Singer/songwriter Vanisha Gould is back in Pittsburgh on Friday at 7 p.m. performing at the Uhuru Jazz Series at The August Wilson African-American Cultural Center. Supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Uhuru jazz series is designed to be a tribute to jazz largely as the embodiment of freedom and improvisation. Gould’s credentials include working with the J.C. Hopkins Biggish Band and Emmet Cohen, among others. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.awaacc.org.
‘Freckle Face Strawberry, The Musical’
The Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall in Carnegie presents family entertainment with “Freckle Face Strawberry, The Musical,” on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. The show is based on the New York Times best-selling book by actress Julianne Moore. It’s specifically geared toward young audiences focusing on a message to children of learning to “love the skin they’re in.” To buy tickets, visit stage62.org/.
Baile!
The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra presents “Baile!” a program of Spanish-inspired dance music and more on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Heinz Hall. The program includes Ravel’s Rapsodie Espagnole, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and Marquez’s Cuban-inspired Danzon No. 2.
