The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that drug poisoning killed the Dormont man who died at the county jail in May.

Tim Manino, 60, died May 25 due to the combined poisoning of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine and para-flurofentanyl, the medical examiner’s office said. The death was ruled an accident.

Jail officials told Tribune-Review news partner WTAE-TV that local police brought Manino to jail on May 22 on a bench warrant for retail theft.

Frazer police charged Manino with retail theft on July 6, 2020, court records show.

Manino’s drug screen at the jail tested positive for opiates, including fentanyl, cocaine and other drugs, jail officials said in a statement at the time. Jail staff initiated a detox protocol.

Correctional staff found Manino unresponsive around 4 p.m. May 25, the statement said. Officials declared a medical emergency, and correctional and health care staff members performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Manino died at the jail at 4:33 p.m. that day, the medical examiner’s office said.

Allegheny County Police are continuing to investigate the death, spokesperson Jim Madalinsky said Monday.

The Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office, which was representing Manino, were not immediately available for comment.
