Baldwin football team adds life skills to training program
Football season always means training. This year, members of the Baldwin High School football team are not just toning their muscles for the season, they are learning skills for life.
Once a week before team workouts, members of the football team – along with any of their student peers who would like to join – will take part in a new and different life skills activity. Students will learn real-world skills like how to tie a tie, change a tire and open a bank account.
“As a teacher and coach, I continually ask myself if we’re providing our kids everything they need to be successful both today and in their futures,” said Baldwin High School teacher and assistant football coach Christopher Reilsono. “I started to formulate a list of skills that would be helpful, but often get overlooked.”
Reilsono invited members of the community to share their expertise.
“Once this concept was made public, the outpouring of support from both teachers and community members has been amazing,” he said. “I truly believe the more people we can utilize, the better this program will be. Not only will it allow us to give back to this generation, it will establish a template and a tradition for them to do so for the next generation.”
