Baldwin Township officials welcomed a new officer to their police force.

The commissioners recently hired Joshua Keach as a full-time patrolman.

Keach was formally introduced via the commissioners’ Zoom meeting Tuesday.

Police Chief Terrence O’Brien said Keach will start Wednesday.

“I’m really looking forward to start work,” Keach said. “I’m going to bring the experience I have and hopefully learn and fit right in.”

Keach was a part-time officer with Greenville-West Salem Township police for about two years prior to coming to Baldwin. His starting salary is about $47,200 a year.

The commissioners and Township Manager Nina Belcastro welcomed Keach to the force.

“We’re really looking forward to having you,” Belcastro said.

Solicitor Tom McDermott commended the police department for managing sick time and scheduling during the covid-19 pandemic.

He said there were very few, if any, call-offs.

Commissioner Tom Taylor said not much has occurred in recreation due to the pandemic, but organizers remain hopeful for Halloween activities and a December event.

“Everything else is pretty much a wait-and-see until we continue through these next few months,” Taylor said.

Baldwin Township, the borough and Whitehall had their trick-or-treat times from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 in previous years.

It’s unclear when the parade might be. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year.

The December event is a breakfast with Santa. It’s usually held in the middle of the month at the township building.
