Police say they responded to a Bethel Park home Thursday after a man shot another man and then himself.

Authorities did not immediately identify either man; both were reported to be in critical condition at unnamed area hospitals.

The incident occurred in the 500 block of Chessbriar Drive, which is near the intersection of Thornwood Drive, Bethel Park police posted to Facebook.

Allegheny County Police said in a release that the “preliminary investigation shows one victim shot the other and then himself.”

Police initially took to social media to tell residents to avoid the area. They reopened nearby roads about 3:40 p.m.

“The incident is contained and there is no threat to the public,” police posted after the roads reopened.

The situation was “resolved” by 4 p.m., Allegheny County Police spokesman Jim Madalinsky said. Madalinsky confirmed homicide detectives were called to the scene.
