Brentwood and Carrick receive 11 new street trees

Members of the Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall Shade Tree Commission organized an event and gathered volunteers to plant trees on Nov. 16.

On Nov. 16, Brownsville Road in Brentwood and Carrick received 11 new street trees thanks to a grant from TreeVitalize and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. The Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall Shade Tree Commission organized the event and gathered volunteers to plant the trees in the long-vacant tree pits. The trees were specially selected for their short stature and salt tolerance, as they will be growing along a sidewalk and busy thoroughfare beneath utility lines and light posts.

This Brentwood tree planting pushed the total number of trees planted by the BBWSTC to 508 (in just seven years)! The Commission recently planted 200 saplings and shrubs in Baldwin’s Colewood Park with the assistance of Tree Pittsburgh and a DCNR grant.

The BBWSTC is happy to assist community members in selecting the proper tree for the right location on their properties. Please contact the Commission at BBWSTC@gmail.com for help.
