Trapped driver rescued after car hits pole on Route 51 in Whitehall

Emergency responders rescued a trapped driver from a vehicle Wednesday after it crashed into a utility pole along Sawmill Run Boulevard in Whitehall.

The wreck was reported shortly after 8 a.m. along Route 51 near Stewart Avenue, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The driver was transported to a hospital but was conscious and alert, the TV station reported.

Both southbound lanes were shut down along with a northbound lane.
