In brief: EMS grants, Lions fundraiser and more in the South Hills
EMS grants
More than $192,000 has been awarded to support local emergency service agencies through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program. Baldwin EMS received $10,000. Baldwin EMS (Fire) received $14,000. Baldwin Independent Fire Co. No. 1 received $15,000, and Whitehall Fire Co. received $15,000. Eligible projects include facility upgrades, equipment, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.
Lions fundraiser
The Pleasant Hills Lions will hold a ‘Golden Girls’ themed card party fundraiser from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Pleasant Hills Boro Building. Cost is $25 per person or $100 for a table of four. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, as will cards (attendees are welcome to bring their own games). Call Marni Latterman for reservations at 412-519-8771.
Spaghetti dinner
Thomas Jefferson High School Band Patrons will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser 3-7 p.m. March 18. The dinner will take place at the Thomas Jefferson High School Cafeteria and will be eat-in or take out. Cost is $12/person, children 5 and under are free. Each meal includes a delicious spaghetti dinner, meatball, bread and butter, side salad, drink and a dessert. There will also be a bake sale and basket raffle. This is the second biggest general fundraiser of the year, the annual Band Festival being first. All proceeds go into the TJ Band Patron’s general account and will help defray the costs of lunches during band camp, snacks and water for all games, and general band activities in which over one hundred band and auxiliary members benefit from.
Rotary scholarship
The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program has scholarships available for the 2022-2023 academic year. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Those attending New Kensington-Arnold, Kiski Area and Burrell Area High Schools and The Kiski School in Westmoreland County are also eligible. Vocational students, G.E.D students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.
Students must have a 2.5 or higher- grade point average and also must complete an essay, which highlights their community/school service, as part of the application submission.
