Brentwood seeks volunteers for 5K
Brentwood Firecracker 5K Race is looking for volunteers.
A hybrid race will be planned. The actual run is the traditional course down and back on Brownsville Road and will be limited to 500 participants.
There will be no race day activities before or after the race. Prizes for placement will be mailed.
The various jobs for volunteers on race day will be setting up and manning the water/drink table(s) and guiding the runners to their assigned time corral.
Also, several volunteers will need to be stationed along Brownsville Road to ensure that participants remain on the course.
Masks will be required the entire time while volunteering, approximately three hours. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and are eligible for community service credit.
Contact Mary Lou Nees, volunteer coordinator, at wearend6@comcast.net or call 412-613-1087.
Summer camp applications open
Jefferson Hills will be offering its summer camp July 5-30 at Gill Hall Park.
The Borough Summer Recreation program is available for children ages 6-10, or those students entering first grade through students entering sixth grade.
Because of the pandemic, changes and safety protocols will be instituted for the protection of campers and counselors alike. Mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing while at camp must be followed. To further ensure camp safety, participants will be grouped into pods of eight students who will act independently from other pods throughout the camp.
Space is limited. Those interested must turn in their application, liability waiver release and $40 payment to the Jefferson Hills Public Library during regular hours. Once all spots are filled, a waiting list will be kept in the event spots open up.
