South Hills areas receive state funds

Four Allegheny County projects will receive a total of $281,275 in state funds, according to a news release from state Senator Devlin Robinson, R-Bridgeville.

The funds are part of the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Funding Program, which is funded by Act 13 of 2012, which established the state’s Marcellus Shale Impact Fee and the Marcellus Legacy Fund. The CFA allocates funds for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects.

The projects in the South Hills receiving funding are:

• Miracle League of the South Hills – $150,000 to make improvements at a baseball facility in the Upper St. Clair. Improvements include building an announcer’s booth and concession stand as well as create shade structures. The total project cost is $555,984.

• South Park Township – $71,275 to build permanent public restroom facilities at the Evans Park Complex, which is a major recreational hub that includes 12 sporting facilities and six picnic pavilions. The total project cost is $169,710.

Summer camp applications open

Jefferson Hills will be offering its summer camp July 5-30 at Gill Hall Park. The Borough Summer Recreation program is available for children ages 6-10, or those students entering first grade through students entering sixth grade.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, changes and safety protocols will be instituted for the protection of campers and counselors alike. Mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing while at camp must be followed. To further ensure camp safety, participants will be grouped into pods of eight students who will act independently from other pods throughout the camp.

Space is limited. Those interested must turn in their application, liability waiver release and $40 payment to the Jefferson Hills Public Library during regular hours. Once all spots are filled, a waiting list will be kept in the event spots open up.
