West Mifflin Area School District’s new transportation contract calls for a new and modernized bus fleet with enhanced safety technology, district officials say.
The district entered into a 5-year contract with Krise Transportation for student transportation, said Mireille Mobley, West Mifflin spokeswoman. Krise will replace Sun Coach Lines, West Mifflin’s current transportation provider.
The contract begins next school year, where West Mifflin will pay $4.1 million, Mobley said.
The annual percentage increase for the contract will range anywhere between 3.5% and 5%, and is based on the consumer price index, she said.
Buses will have interior video and audio camera systems, child safety check technology and GPS tracking, Superintendent Jeffrey Soles said in a statement.
West Mifflin intends to purchase GPS and a parent notification platform from Tyler Technologies so families can receive real-time updates and better predict when their children will be picked up or dropped off.
The district is pursuing the BusPatrol safety program for the new fleet, Soles said. BusPatrol installs cameras on the exterior stop arm of school buses to take photos of vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses.
