A Whitehall Borough police officer was injured after being struck and dragged by a vehicle early Saturday.

The officer was conducting a traffic stop at 3:44 a.m. on Clairton Boulevard (Route 51) near Beall Drive, in the vicinity of Baldwin High School.

The department posted of the incident on their Facebook page.

Police reported the officer was dragged about 200 feet. They said he is in stable condition at a local trauma center.

Sources told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI that the officer is expected to be released from the hospital sometime this morning.

The Allegheny County Police Department is assisting Whitehall officers with the investigation.
