The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man killed in a Jefferson Hills truck-train crash Monday as a West Virginia resident.
Michael Peters, 64, of Rock Cave, was dead at the scene along Route 51, after his dump truck collided with a Wheeling and Lake Erie train. The cause of death has not been released.
The train had been crossing Route 51 near Worthington Drive when it collided with the truck at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Jefferson Hills Police Chief Ron Dziezgowski said traffic control devices were active on at least one side of the railroad tracks. Devices on the other side were knocked out by the crash, and investigators will try to determine whether they were working at the time of the crash, he said.
Route 51 was closed in both directions, from Jefferson Boulevard to Ridge Road, until after noon Tuesday, according to a social media post by Jefferson Hills police.
