An altercation in which a gun was fired near the AMC Theatre at South Hills Village Mall led to the arrest of three suspects after an ensuing police chase ended in Dormont.

Bethel Park police initially responded to a report of an attempted shooting. Officers arrived to find a male who’d been assaulted, but not shot.

First responders found an 18-year-old man that was the victim of an assault, Allegheny County Police said. It was later determined no one was shot.

County police said preliminary information indicate “a juvenile male was walking near the theater and arguing with people traveling in what was later found to be a stolen vehicle.

“The juvenile then struck a second vehicle causing damage. The driver of the second vehicle confronted the juvenile and the two engaged in a physical altercation.”

During that scuffle, county police said, the driver of the first vehicle, an 18-year-old man, fired multiple shots in the direction of the second driver.

The juvenile involved in the fight got into stolen vehicle, and it fled.

A short time later, police from several departments located the vehicle traveling through Mt. Lebanon and into Dormont. The occupants got out and ran along Route 19, and three males were later taken into custody without further incident.

Their identities were not immediately released.

Detectives were consulting with the district attorney’s office to determine the appropriate charges.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
